Grid Gone Haywire

Grid Gone Haywire (2015, spray paint on canvas paper, 54cm x 71cm)

‘Grid Gone Haywire’ – refers to the ambiguity of the net and grid, showing a chaotic looking net. It is a distorted grid, gone ‘haywire’. The net as an organic derivative of the grid that has become distorted/flexible/gone haywire.
The grid with its angular, balanced structure can organize, stabilize, but also control, imprison; the organic net can entrap or protect. They can transform into each other (like contrapuntal inversion in music)- the net is just a distorted grid, diverging from the angular norm or ideal – and the grid can be a net forced/frozen into vertical alignment, that has lost its organic quality.
